Preparation requirements
12-hour fast
No food or caloric drinks for 12 hours before collection. Water is fine. The test must be done fasted for accurate metabolic and insulin markers.
Supplements and medication
Avoid all supplements for 48 hours before the test. For medications, pause for 48 hours only if your doctor permits. Do not stop any medication without medical guidance.
No intensive exercise
Avoid extensive or strenuous exercise for 48 hours before collection. Light walking is fine. Exercise elevates inflammatory markers and alters several hormone readings.
Morning collection
Ideally done within 90 minutes of waking. Morning cortisol, TSH, and several hormonal markers follow a diurnal rhythm: morning collection gives the most clinically useful picture.
Stay hydrated
Drink adequate water the evening before and the morning of collection. Dehydration makes blood draw more difficult and can affect some marker readings.

Note any current medications, supplements, or recent illness before the test. Share this with the BbD team so your results are interpreted in context.
